O My Crafty Friends:

Do you know of anyone getting rid of a spare sewing machine? My sister needs one. Craigslist is full of "antiques," which, while pretty, are not what I'm looking for. I am looking for something 20 years old or newer, straightforward, simple, functional, and relatively local (honestly anything inside MA or the southern half of NH).

Anyone?

My husband may be launching an old White. I'll ask him about it when he gets home and let you know.

So, he says it's older than 20 years and missing a part that would not be hard to replace (he just hasn't gotten around to it). I'm guessing this is not the machine you had in mind for your sister. If you decide you do actually want it, let me know and it's yours for the taking.

You know, I really should consider getting rid of one of mine. I have a Singer my mom gave me about 18 or 19 years ago, great shape, great machine. It's my back up, but I could always use A's or, well, one of my other machines. OK, I'm convinced, I have one I can offer up. Durable, simple, great shape.

Same here, plus my spares are all over 20 years old. :)

Heh, I'm going to guess I was too conservative in my age requirements. I should have said 30-10 years old... ;-)

Actually, I have one that I'm trying to get rid of, but there are a few issues:
1) European plug = 220V/50Hz
2) It's in Switzerland, and the shipping would cost more than the machine is worth.

Sorry! :-)

Hahaha, yes, those are both kind of deal-breakers. Good to hear from you anyway, though!! :-)

About a year ago my mom gave me a couple that were donated to her volunteer quilting group. I will check the basement. They are either buried down there or somewhere at Camelot. But I would be happy to unload them either way. Does she want two? I think there were two or three.
