Reading this Times piece about a freegan commune in Buffalo reminded me of Amsterdam. It's amazing how feasible it is to live off the scraps of a society's past and current wealth, isn't it? This reminded me of Las Vegas's other seedy underbelly.

To be fair, it is from The Sun, which is all about the tabloid shocking. But the story has come up in a few other places as well.

Yeah, the city of Amsterdam. Full of imposing stone buildings that say "We are great. We are mighty. We are the center of the world." Except now half of them have been carved up into head shops and stores selling tourist crap.

i've been reading about freeganism for a few years now but this article has the most personal slant to it.
