Joni used to be the Queen of the phone-in contribution. Larry Carlton, among others, would take her recording out of the mailbox, do his little thang, and drop it back in the post to her. I do agree with you, however, that the entire band grooving to a disembodied vocal is sort of cheating, and sounds "made up."

Good to see Wayne Shorter, and I've come to love Vinnie, having seen him live a few years ago.
Need this CD, I guess.
