So today I did a little bit of weightlifting, Nautilus style. I can benchpress about 115, maybe could've been 130 if I were out to kill myself. I settled on 10 reps at 80, though. I can leg press 160 20 times, blah blah. I guess it's about where I thought I'd be ( Read more... )

the puking thing is normal, it's just 'cause you haven't done it in forever.

Yeah... I remember, back in my early teens, the first time I felt the side-splitting sensation during running. I was all like, "what the fuck?", only not, because I didn't swear back then, so my bafflement was compounded by not knowing how to completely express it. I look forward to my next surprise. :-P

It might be a good idea to do some cardio training, with emphasis on keeping your heart-rate within training ranges; that pukey feeling comes from overexertion.
With time, you can get better at maintaining a high heart rate, because that's what anaerobic exercise requires. Combining aerobic and anaerobic makes for a more complete fitness profile.

I get on the elliptical machine, set it for one of the "cross training" routines, so I get a variation of attack angles.
I set the resistance for like 5-8, depending on mood, but had started out around 2-3.
I intend to do about 3.5 miles, though starting out I only did 2.
I keep my heart rate within the specified parameters for my age, using the standard THR formula: 223-age=max,
train between 60-85% of max.

now here's the real bitch:
every "half mile" I jump off and do 16 pushups (starting out, I did 10, and gradually increased it)

7x16=112.

Do a few more sets, and it's a gross (144), an impressive number.
I like pushups, because they are proportional to your bodyweight, and because they're hella safer than benchpressing.
Not hard enough?
wear a weight on your back, try handclap pushups, or one-handed!
