Hello. My name’s Maurice Moss and I’m trying to work out who this device belongs to. Some complete fool dropped it next to a fountain, would you believe? Really. People ought to be more careful with their belongings. It could have fallen in the fountain and then there wouldn’t have been any point in me returning it. It wouldn’t even be ( Read more... )

Actually that device is yours and you're in The City. Also smooth move on calling people bozos while attempting make it look like you're taking the moral high road.

I wasn't taking the moral high road. I was simply stating what might happen if people insist on being careless.

Also, the device isn't mine. If it was, I think I would have recognised it.

It's yours, everyone that arrives here gets one.

I can tell already that you are going to find this...unbelievable. Some actually don't.

That device is yours. Keep it. You're in an interdimensional city, from which you cannot escape until you mysteriously vanish back to your homeworld. No, you aren't in your world anymore. Yes, almost anything can and will happen. The City houses entities here ranging from demons and vampires to strong AI to everyday humans.

...And I did just write all of that with a straight face, so pay attention.

Well, you were right about one thing. It does all sound pretty unbelievable.

You'll become accustomed to it soon enough, human.

...That would imply that you're not human.

The Welcome Center's pretty close to you, might help you get situated. I can send you a couple guides too, cause Google ain't gonna be much help here.

What do you mean Google's not going to be much help here? Google's always helpful.

Yeah, get through the pain now. The City ain't on Google Maps, brah.

Why not? It should be on Google Maps. Everywhere's on Google Maps. Why is no one calling this place by a proper name?

It's more indestructible than you'd assume.

Right. So, I could drop it in the fountain if I wanted to?

Try it and tell me if it works. I'll join you.

Been here for almost two years now, and it hasn't broken yet.

Are you sure that's a good idea? Because that was really more of a theoretical want to than anything.

You got it at the same time you came here?

I don't think Google Maps is gonna do you much good here.

Well, actually I was going to use it to look up public transport. Would that not do me much good either?

You might be able to get the subway in the Underground, but anything like a bus isn't going to pop up. We had a taxi once, but the guy who drove it left. There's no way out of this place anyway. Sorry to burst your bubble.
