I have a spirited child. Very bright. Very creative, and unfortunately very misunderstood. Fortunately the misunderstood part changed when I removed him from Catholic school. It was suggested by a nun that he be "medicated" for his "over enthusiastic" behavior. She even made him stay behind for a class trip b/c he didn't raise his hand before asking a question. The pediatrician said he showed no signs of attention defecit plus he has higher than average intelligence. My next step was to enroll him in a gifted program at a magnet school where he began thriving. He's in H.S. now and is in the National Honor Society, a musician and a thespian. It does get better!
Thank you SO MUCH. It makes me feel a zillion times better to know that it does indeed get better for bright, feisty kids like ours.
She is in Catholic school, but she also had a pretty good experience last year. So I'm hoping it's just this teacher who doesn't "get" her. Although I have to say: I went to Catholic grammar school myself, and it wasn't the best experience. However, that was back in the Dark Ages, so I'm also hoping that times have changed! My mom has suggested finding a gifted program too, and if this kind of stuff continues into second grade I may just look into that.
Thanks yet again for sharing...and for approving of my rants. ;)
