[Warden Filter | Video]

[Kay is sitting at his desk, his hands steepled in front of his face as he tries to make this one last appeal. He takes a deep breath and sits up.] Alright... I am not the most polite man in the world. I try to be respectful but when it comes to a job I usually get right down to business. This time, though, 'cause it's ( Read more... )

warden filter - and rare paddy appearance minus his real point. christ_onabike November 4 2010, 03:30:55 UTC
Now, I ain't normally one to comment on these things, because... all sorts of fucking reasons.

But, kinda basic point here.

Why don't we have those rules pinned up somewhere? I mean, it ain't hard, is it? I've got a thing in my kitchen pinned up with 'shit you must not do or Paddy will kick your arse' - so people know this shit. Cause otherwise, you can change 'em around all you like and nobody'll know.

On the riot subject - I... I dunno if I might be able to help. But I used to be an inmate. I was, at one time, in a real fucking prison riot, and it was fucking horrific.

I might be able to put a decent number of 'em off the idea. But that's relying on them being sensible fucking human beings who don't want a knife in their face. So I dunno.

Anyway. That's all. Back to your usual schedule of whatever it is everyone does on these things.

I think new wardens at least oughta be told about them. It'd help them tread lightly anyway. It sorta gets glossed over in warning people about the floods and the fucked up stuff.

Yes, there are aliens, try not to hurt anyone's feelings. Yes, there are floods. Try not to shit yourself. Yes, there are these rules. I didn't make 'em. They're just here. Maybe at least a place to reference them if not saying that upfront. Oughta petition for brochures in the warden quarters... [He chuckles dryly]

[Private to Paddy]

It's the misuse of the ship that's buggin' me most. And the risk of us getting stuck without resources. Do you think it would be good to discretely move some dried preserved stuff to some of the other floors? Small stockpiles that the inmates don't know about?

It'd save telling people about them if we went around and stuck 'em on the inside of all the doors. Y'know, like a fire safety notice. Inmates ought to know 'bout the rules too.

[Private]

Well, I did just put a giant fucking box of Pot Noodles in my room.

Problem is, if it looks like we're preparing for some disturbance - more likely it is there'll be one. We start stockpiling shit - it just looks like you're trying to look after your own. And don't say they won't notice, cause they will. And they'll twist it. And it'll make shit worse.

But my kitchen's pretty fucking secure, even if the Master works there. He can't let anyone in - and the rest of my shift are gonna side with me, not him, if it comes to it. Cause I treat 'em right.

Hope you're right, but at this point I'm pretty sure it is gonna happen. You still got the locks in place meant to protect the vampire blood?

[And three floors down, Narvin is swearing in Gallifreyan. Because now *all* the wardens know and the chances of successfully taking over the Barge (never hugely high to begin with but enough to make turning a blind eye to the Master's scheme worth it) have gone down. Unless perhaps he gets more actively involved with the conspiracy, which he doesn't want to do but feels he may have to. It's that or join the warden's side now and act like this is the first he's heard about any riot plans. And if there's a way to do both simultaneously...

He was, however, half expecting this, so although it rather ruins his day, it doesn't come as a surprise..]

[He's really hoping that Narvin notices that bit about the LGTW, and that the Master will dick him over. It might be too late, but for heaven's sakes he wants him to notice.]

[He *did* notice the reference, and alas, all he got out of it was confirmation that the Barge does indeed have the power to break through a time lock. Because Narvin (like most Time Lords) has a bit of a one-track mind sometimes.]

I've bugged the Master's communicator. [He held back from telling Kay earlier but there's no point in hiding it now. Narvin is playing both sides for all he's worth. He knows Kay knows it (ah, politics!), but he's got to put on a show for the other wardens.] The details are vague, however. There isn't much in the way of specific plans or dates in place. Right now it seems to be all talk.

[And this is mostly all true as far as Narvin knows, since the current main plan involves Narvin himself and the Master has kept that hidden from him.]

I've been continuing to try to hack into the inmate filter but the Barge systems are unfamiliar and I haven't had any luck so far.

It's talk that continued even after I caught Arthas up in it, which is a sure fire sign it's probably going to go down.

Really, I wish all the wardens would disable the filters for a bit, but there's that whole trust thing. I don't think it'll do much to stop it.

[Private] And, yup, that last one was, too. I fail at subject lines. :-( timesbureaucrat November 4 2010, 04:51:40 UTC
[sigh] Trust. What a bloody nuisance it is.

[He says this as part joke and part serious.]

How Exactly are they going to hack into the warden filters? I thought the Admiral took care of that with whatever voodoo shit keeps turning the ship into a high school or whatever?

Anyhow, I always said at least one of those rules is asking for trouble when you try and define 'excessive' in a place like this.

It's a tough line to toe. I think at it's most basic, you got someone in Zero? Don't come down and shoot them like fish in a barrel. Don't break up a fist fight with a knife in the heart. But quite honestly if I saw an inmate lunging at another armed with intent to maim or kill? I'd take their head off to stop it from happening. I guess you just gotta own up to whatever you end up doing.

Easy. Someone just has to get ahold of a journal with a warden filter and figure out what makes that filter work. I couldn't do it, but I guarantee you others could.

Sorry. Not about to engage in wholesale slaughter for the hell of it, but if I see an advantage, I'm taking it.
