Aftermath of the Ball, aweasley_twin

It had been a lovely evening. She rather enjoyed dancing with Viktor, and she felt certain they were just friends, though he seemed to stare at her quite a bit. She felt a lot of eyes on her which was unsettling. But it had been fun to dress up, and the charms had managed to hold her hair in place. It was a lovely way to spend Christmas ( Read more... )

It was late but Fred wasn't tired. Not in the least.

The ball had been fun. He and Angelina danced and had a really nice time. Of course they were just friends. And he ended up leaving her in the Great Hall flirting with some prats from Beauxbatons. He wasn't jealous. There was nothing between him and Angie but platonic love.

He saw Hermione as he was casually strolling the halls. Had he been looking for her? Kind of. He had heard about her row with Ron and was hoping he talk to her. But he figured she had long since headed up to bed.

But here she was.

She looked so sad it broke his heart. He wanted to go over there and wrap his arms around her. But that would be wildly inappropriate. Yes?
He cleared his throat so not to startle her. "Hermione?"

"Fred?"

Suddenly she felt very small and vulnerable. This was not normal or comfortable, but it was Fred...and that made her feel a bit better. Though, embarrassed. She wiped at her eyes, but the tears were still falling. It made her think of Disney princesses - which Fred likely wouldn't understand - but they often cried in a messy heap in their fancy ball gowns.

She sniffled, "I'm... I'm fine."

"Yes, it is I. The handsomer of the twins," Fred tried to smile but he sensed now might not be the best time for his humor.

Fred took a deep breath and sat down one step down from her. He wanted so badly to say the right thing to make her feel better. "I know you are fine," Fred assured her. "But it is ok if you're not ok, you know. It's ok to be mad and disappointed."

"I saw you at the ball, silly," she sniffled, but managed a small smile at him. "I knew what you were wearing. Did George even go? I don't remember if I saw him..." To be fair, she wasn't looking for him. She knew Fred would be there, and she may have looked around for him. Maybe.

"Is it okay if I want to hex your brother straight into next Sunday? And the only reason I haven't is because my wand is in my room? The next time I have to get dressed up, I ought to enchant a bag so I can at least have my wand close by. Maybe a spellbook. And some potions. But depending on the charm, I could make it- Nevermind. That idea might be rubbish."

She sighed. "I was already cross and disappointed with him last time I saw you. It's just much worse now because he met those expectations. He didn't prove me wrong. He acted exactly as I thought he would. He and Harry were miserable all night."
