For some reason, I found Daniel in tonight's SG-1 episode occasionally reminiscent of  first or second season Daniel;  I just don't quite know why.

I told you, it's because he's being Determined Happyish Optimistic Researchy Weirdo Daniel. Most other seasons there's at least one adjective missing (usually "Happyish" or "Weirdo," but sometimes "Determined" or "Optimistic").

Noooo, you said he was being Bouncy Researchy Daniel, and that wasn't what I meant.

If you add Earnest to the new list, it sounds about right though, as long as we remember it's usually two (or more) adjectives missing...

He's always earnest (excepting Absolute Power), so I don't think it belongs on the list. And if you go back as far as the third season, I don't think "usually two (or more)" is accurate, either. Sometimes, definitely, but not usually.
