"during a recent Q&As with Lynch I asked him if he met actors who played the characters from the comics and if he tried to incorporate their personal traits into the characters. He didn't reply."
Oh there's a surprise. *g*
Don't get me wrong I'm relieved that Brian is going to be writing more Spike as he seems to genuinely love the character, and I trust him more then anyone else out there at the moment, but I'm afraid these comics and (like all mainstream comics) written by and for men, not women, and so other sides of Spikes character I think will probably be either played down, or vanish altogether.

Yes, I noticed the tonal shift in the very first issue of BtVS. Suddenly it stopped being the show I knew and turned into a fanboy's universe with cool chicks, shiny weapons etc. *shrugs* Beggars can't be choosers. I'd love to see James collaborate with Lynch. Although I realize it hardly happens, a girl can dream, can't she?

Oh it would probaly only end up in a 'punch up' between the pair of them. *g*
Yep, I know a few people (mainly on a certain fan board and mainly blokes of course) strongly disagree with my view of the comic industry still being a male led one, but hell I was brought up with comics and their fans and by god things don't seem to have changed all that much. It's still aimed at men. Thats their core audience and of course they're gonna pander to that. It makes good financial sense If nothing else.

That's why I'm intrigued by the prospect of a woman writing Angel comics. So far, Jane Espenson did fine job with Harmony issue - but she wrote a female-centric story in a female-centric comic. I'm curious about Armstrong's take on Angel.
As an avid fanfiction reader I can attest that there are great female ficwriters whose stories and dialogues are at least as good as the comics I read.
Have to admit that, though I don't like much I've read about Kelley Armstrong's arc yet, I'm looking forward to seeing if the comic reads different when written by a woman, and irritated that she's not allowed to write Spike.
Seems Comics Spike is Brian Lynch's personal property now. Oh well. At least we know he likes the character, even if his Spike isn't quite the same as ours.
As for the nuttier extreme of a certain fanfaction, just ignore them. Even Joss has said now that he doesn't think of the comics as being like the show. The show ended withe the B/A vs S/B rivalry as a draw, and that's how it'll stay.

I try to be philosophical about it. We have Spuffy-Spike, Spangel-Spike, Spander-Spike, comics Spike - I can always choose the one I like. *g*

Yes, but Joss will be milking this triangle till forever. Every time the ratings drop he'll use the guys to raise them. I have the impression that he plans to go on with BtVS comics for at least another season - i.e. another three years.

Probably, but to me, that's a good thing. Like most Spike fans and Spuffy 'shippers/former Spuffy 'shippers, I don't have this bizarre sense of entitlement that another group of fans have and just expect to get royally shafted, so the longer Joss sits on the fence the better.
You're right. At least, it's Joss' fence-sitting that fuels fanfiction and fanart. I doubt that I'd be in the fandom that long if Joss resolved the triangle in *any* way. Wish fulfillment kills the wish. But I can't make myself care about the characters because of the mystery of their relationship.
Thank you! The ending was bittersweet - on one hand I was happy for Angel and Connor and Spike, on the other hand I was sad that it was over. And I haven't the least idea what to expect from Aftermath. I know Lynch's style and I know that he writes Spike well so I'm not nervous about The Spike Series. Armstrong's Aftermath is intriguing because of its complete uncertainty. I guess I'm afraid to be disappointed. Hopefully I won't.
I have a question, and forgive me if it's a stupid one.
There was mention of Angel and Spike seeing the Angel movie, which starred Nic Cage as Angel and some blonde chick as Spike. Is this something that is going to be seen elsewhere, or...? Did I miss something?
Also, have you gotten #18 yet? I'm reading mine tonight, but I haven't heard good things...
I believe it's a joke from the upcoming first issue of Spike comic - the one Lynch is writing right now. I remember that he mentioned in one of his interviews that Spike and Angel will discuss the movie Hollywood made about their adventures.
I read #18. I... don't know, really. I don't have anything positive to say and I don't have anything negative too. It's like AtS has returned back to square A - to the pilot episode about a vampire who start helping the helpless. It's hard to say whether the writer will find an interesting story to tell. We'll see.
And they're taking it back to the start in #18? That seems a bit pointless, but...oh, Lynch said on his blog that the Gunn one shot issue? He said that to him that's the real conclusion for AtF, and that if they make it a book, he wants that at the end. I'm waiting for that and the Spike comics.
