For several years, I've meant to do a "favorite songs of [Year]" post, and I've always run out of time or had my external hard drive die (well, that was just the once). This year, my Yuletide is in, my grades are submitted, and it's this or the DMV. So here you go: 40 songs released this year, with commentary, in alphabetical order by artist

I feel the same way about Bon Iver - he's RIYL all kinds of bands I like, but most of his music doesn't work for me. "Beth/Rest" is the exception, and it doesn't sound like most of his music. Glad to know I'm not alone!
