1. There were some comments on yesterday's post (and callmesandy's related post) about how badfic just ain't what it used to be. And then callmesandy and I spent part of our Jewish Christmas Eve snarking at the TNT ER Christmas episode marathon. In addition to reminding me that I used to be very obsessed with a godawful show, it reminded me of the best badfic title ever

I'm not saying badfic is dead -- there's plenty of poor writing and vaguely offensive AU premises in my fandoms, too. (Nazi AUs? Heroes fandom? Like peanut butter and jelly, apparently.) But badfic used to be funny! There used to be something to ridicule! Now it's just depressing. Like, the ER fic I linked to was done in the spirit of, "I know this is cheesy as hell, but aren't rent boy AUs fun?" Now, when you get a rent boy AU, it's totally unironic.

Badfic is alive, definitely, but as I commented above, it's just not as much fun anymore. The people writing crap take themselves so much more seriously.

I miss him too! He's not my favorite, but he definitely strengthens the field, and his inability to count always made the scoring interesting.
