First World Problem

I very much fear that if I want fandom now, I'm going to have to break down and join Tumblr.

I HATE TUMBLR YOU GUYS.

What do you hate about it? Everything?

It's a bit overwhelming at first. I'm still learning how to navigate it and interact. Not super active, but I spend hours scrolling and gazing at gifs & pics.

It's kind of addicting.

Too little in the way of long conversations; far too much wank and drama. Basically, it does away with most of what I liked about LJ-era fandom and replaces it with the things I didn't like turned up to eleven. (I've been doing pretty fandom pictures on Pinterest, mostly.)

However, if I want fandom these days, tumblr it has to be, and I has a sad about it.

I don't much like Tumblr, that's for sure. It's good for gifsets and picture posts but horrid for fic or for discussion. Absolutely awful for those elements which are the aspects of fandom that I enjoy the most.

In other words? I hear you!

I like pretty pictures as much as anyone, but what about all the rest of fandom? I miss all that.

I go to AO3 for fic but there's no real discussion there, either. I cling to LJ and DW for what I can still find here - interaction!

I hate it too, but it does seem to the place to be for most fandoms, unfortunately. My newest fandom is killing me because people like to post fic there, often without capital letters, and I just don't understand why. What's wrong with LJ, where you can actually have proper discussions and better formatting?

often without capital letters

I wish you could see the expression on my face, because hell no!

Ugh, why?

Recently I came across a 26,000 word fic that looked interesting, and I read one sentence and realized it was written entirely without capital letters. I guess it's the new cool thing to do and it pains me so much. I have no idea why anyone would think that was a good idea.

Half a NaNoWriMo's worth of text sans capital letters? I don't think there's anything that could make me read that.

I have a Tumblr and like it a lot, but only for looking at things. I would go nuts trying to read fic there, and discussions...no way. And this is from somebody who has always been more lurker than not. I really don't feel like it has any sense of community.

Yes to pretty pictures! Sadly no to just about everything else. I miss having the whole fandom experience in one place.

Fandom for those easily distracted and short of attention span. I like shiny as much as anyone, but I want substance, too. Sigh.
