Summer fun at my house

At the top of a country dirt road, you see a couple of large, reflective orange and white barricades and a huge sign that reads:

BRIDGE CLOSED 0.7 MILES AHEAD
LOCAL TRAFFIC ONLY

Poll Bridge Repair 2011

pointing and laughing, can't get there from here, poll

In my town, local traffic often means "only if you really want to go through there because it's down to one lane instead of two" like the road just around the corner from our house. So it could be a legitimate confusion except for the whole bridge part of the sign. There ain't no shoulder for a bridge!

Yep, no shoulder for a bridge - and our bridge is a tiny, one-lane bridge even when it actually exists, which it doesn't at the moment. No shoulder at all, really, since this is a narrow, steep, winding dirt road. IDK!

I could maybe see someone who's not local and who is following their GPS. But anyone who knows the area should stop at the sign and leave your driveway and mailbox the heck alone!

Though, to be fair, there are still signs up on my way to work, claiming the off-ramp I use is closed and that you should use a detour--detour signs are still up, too.

Said off-ramp has been open for a week.

I assume that the unfortunate local traffic has to off road it to get to their homes and am glad I can avoid breaking my car by doing what they are forced to do every day because I can take an alternate, less dangerous route. I hate taking my car through any construction though. I value my stuff.

Our road has two outlets, upper and lower, so now that its bridge is closed you must choose your route according to which side of the closed bridge you need end up on.

For local things, I always went south up the road anyway (except during mud season, because I bottomed out up there and ruined a catalytic converter a few years ago), but heading north toward interstate access/civilization, which normally means going down the hill and crossing the bridge, now involves an extra ten minutes of driving time because I have to head in the completely wrong direction for a few miles first.

You should just stand out in front of your house with a shotgun and a surly look on your face and see how many of these idiots ask you then.

...I bet it's a lot.
