Fortunately, the rest is really interesting; good angst for all the characters and then the show gets turned on its head right after the midway point and then. Well. then there is season five. *GRINS*
Cordy is dead. She'll never be back. The Thing That Pretends To Be Cordy is not her, and it a strange imposter. In fact, try to pretend she does not exist.
Oh man. Late season 3 Cordy and the way they turned Angel/Cordy from something I wildly shipped into something that made me sob...well, we get real!Cordy back for a teeny bit much later.
Season 4...hmm...in season 4, we get Gwen and Gwen/spoiler and Wes/Lilah and lots of angry angsty Wes and Faith and a bit of *spoiler* and there's the ever awesome Gina Torres but...ehm...ok, there's Faith and Gwen(even if for only a few eps) and some fun suffering for Angel and Wes and Gina Torres as a goddess. So there are at least some good bits.
S3 was all over the place. I kind of stalled in the middle of it because of that. There would be these moments of greatness and then it would settle back into disappointing mediocrity.
HAHAHAhahahahahahahahaha! Oh, sorry. I just so bitterly hate S4. It is the season of suck, and if it didn't set up S5 - which is so completely f-ing brilliant - I would tell you to skip it. Seriously. Just grit your teeth and get through it, so you can watch S5. Well, the last half of S5 is where it gets mind blowingly awesome, but all of S5 is head and shoulders above the craptastic-ness of S4.
Some commenters say they hate S4 and others mention things they liked a lot about it, so I have no idea what to think. Hearing that Wesley is amazing is a good sign.
Well people who like season 3 usually hate season 4. So maybe it will work in reverse for you? I myself love it. And PTB gives you a reason for Cordy change of personnality. Which season 3 never does, seeming to think it's growth. Season 5 beginning is pretty boring, IMO. But it gets really good after a while. But then, I'm not a Spike fan so...

oh wesley/lilah. oh.
I like s4 more than the end of s3. But. Just know. That the thing with Cordy's character assassination? It gets worse.

The Cordy thing gets worse? *headdesk* I feel like I should watch some early Buffy as an antidote.

I'll lie back and think of Spike when it gets too dreadful.
