South Jersey and the drive-off incident

Sunny, 60-70°F. I had no concrete plans for today so I decided to just continue geocaching where I stopped last Sunday in Moorestown. I started with some hiking geocaches (by the Swedes Run swamp, no less) but switched to easier ones in the interest of time. As far as I can see, Florida seems to be prepay only. There is the issue about paying in cash though as you mentioned. Either you have to be a good guesser or you leave a "deposit" and come back to get your change after pumping.

As far as I know, there aren't any states that require gas stations to be pre-pay only, by law -- but it is pretty much becoming the norm due to drive-off issues like this. I'm actually surprised to hear that it's not already the norm in New Jersey, seeing as how drive-off incidents have been on the rise for the last decade, at least, ever since gas went over $3 a gallon (even if it did go back down for a while)...

The last time I came across a self-serve gas station that did not require pre-pay was near Morgantown, PA. They have a geocache along the side of the convenience store. Of course, it's a rural area where they would not expect much crime anyway.

There are a few more gas stations around Lancaster County that I've discovered do not need pre-pay but those are the exceptions, not the rule.
