I'm glad that you have a much more optimistic prediction of 2100... I would have said that in the year 2100, the few remaining bands of people who survived the nuclear holocaust will still be engaging in fights with each other over scarce resources like food and drinkable water. :/
I'm sorry that I seem so bleak, but with the way humanity is going, I know it's all going to be traveling down a self-destructive path that will take everything else with it.
They were on the mark with direct deposit and credit cards, but we still don't have cars that drive themselves at 250mph on smooth plastic roads. :)
Actually, I'm not so surprised by the accuracy of the population numbers. They knew back then that human population follows an exponential growth model, so assuming that we don't hit any hard resource limits, they could predict that the population would continue to double at the same rate.
Actually, this article is quite stunning in its overall accuracy. Genetic engineering, energy from ocean currents, communication and transportation speeds... the only shame is that they didn't credit which expert had predicted what. I suspect we would've recognized at least a few names.
We will use "thought crystals" to communicate with the dead. These crystals will allow us to amplify our thoughts to them. Once thought to be impossible, science will have learned to commune with spirits using devices connected to these crystals which utilize and manipulate magnets and particles

Here's another fun one to read. http://blog.modernmechanix.com/2008/03/24/what-will-life-be-like-in-the-year-2008/ and again, the population numbers were right on.
