I already know why I should avoid the place. But two other places have already taken advantage of him and we don't know of anywhere else. Please feel free to make suggestions/point.
I do want you to, I already said I would pay you to put it right but I also said I wasn't going to your house on my own. Call me whatever, but I'm not.
I /do/ - I want a decent machine and I don't want them screwing him again.. And I will :-)
your current machine is probably a 5 minute job, or it requires a new hdd, which i can test here. new hard disk = 30 quid these days for the same size.
if buying a new desktop, dell or mesh.
for laptops, either an apple. (I'm serious, if you can afford it you wont regret it. powerbook in 12" is lush.) or start looking seriously online. please dont just buy the first one you see..
look for a pentium mobile, otherwise it will get pretty hot, and you (probably) dont need some stupid p4 or athlon poweered system. IBM thinkpads are very nice, as are panasonic toughbooks, and toshiba is worth a look too. Remember laptops are much more expensive to run..
No-one seems to do computer repair here sensibly, but dell and mesh do very good service.
I'm probaly busy this afternoon and tonight, but let me know when your free and i'll bring a drive round that should boot, to prove your system.
you know very well I understand very little of that! Put it this way - buying a laptop - ignore money (this is my grandad we're talking about) - it needs to be capable of uni work/rubbish/internet - it doesn't need to do circus tricks - I don't care about make/components/names because I don't understand them - I will probably end up getting whatever you/the sales guy recommend - depending on who wins the 'sense' argument
Free - tomorrow 3-6, Sat & Sun whenever-5. If you're not busy (We've established it's problem is something about 'error booting operating system' lol)
