Yes.... but also, remember that Sherlock Holmes wasnt written as high art or great literature. It was popular entertainment published in the monthly Strand Magazine.
There was lots of fistucuffs, shooting, dashing about, exotic bad guys, improbable plots that threatened the very fabric of the nation and heroic feats of patriotic courage that saved the day. Holmes was a coke fiend and a waster in between manic fits of genius. Without Watson to handle all the tedious everyday nonsense he would have been a mess.
I'd say this is very much in the spirit of the original :)
Sooooo, "Sherlock Holmes and the case of the outrageously melodramatic 'occultism'" then? Also, this trailer appears not to feature either of the two people I know who are in this film. Which is plainly wrong.

Also, let's not forget his martial arts prowess!
I think this looks brilliant. Peter Cushing was very good, but far too clean-cut a Holmes.
