FantasyRogue's tutorial is what I started out with when I was learning how to mesh. It is very easy to follow and separating a top, I found, was a great way to get into meshing. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! It's written out incredibly clearly and really reads like an intro to meshing as well as specific instructions for separating a top, so I think it'll be good for when I'm just starting.

Yay! Meshing is so much fun, I can't wait to see what you do with it :)
I've used fantasyrogues tutorial as well, it's really good. I haven't done any converting between ages but I generally think it'd be easier to just separate a top at the right age because that is actually very easy. You don't have to fiddle around with the vertices that much when you do that :)
I'm really excited to hear you're gonna do this :D
