I've been trying to find some Vietnamese music that I actually like so that I can listen to it and, hopefully, improve my pronunciation. I actually found a singer that I like (Bảo Hân). I found out that she was involved in a Vietnamese cover of It's Raining Men. I decided to look up other covers for the song and found this:

OMG LMAOOOOOOOOOO

Viet has different text too doesn't it? I would have assumed it'd be harder anyway since you can speak English and Spanish is so similar.

The text is similar, in that they use Latin based letters (French influence), with a few additions and omissions. The only reason I'm even attempting to also learn to read and write in Vietnamese is because the alphabet is Latin based.

I knew it would be more difficult than Spanish, but in comparison with Vietnamese, Spanish feels 10 times easier (I used to think that I would never pick up Spanish, I laugh at myself now). My biggest issue is making the correct sounds, since I have to use my mouth, tongue, and throat (versus only needing your mouth and tongue for English). My throat is so sore afterward. lol

What would you say are some of the biggest differences between Viet and Spanish and English? I'm intrigued. They use their throat? I hear Viet often but I guess my ears just aren't trained to hear those sounds!

I think the biggest difference is that there are some sounds in Vietnamese that we don't ever make in English or Spanish. The French tried to match the sounds to their alphabet (so "a" sounds like the "a" in "apple"), but then you have "ư" which kinda sounds like "uewggh" (it's hard to describe, lol) and you have to raise the very back end of your tongue towards the top of your mouth(it feels like it's using the same muscles that we would use to swallow or raise the thyroid cartilage). There are also some sounds that require you to harshly expel air using your diaphragm, which I don't notice in English or Spanish ( ... )
