So I thought my fill for the mistaken identity square on hc_bingo should be an introspective acoustic mix about trying to be someone you're not and the search for an authentic self. Then I decided I'd make something about stealing cars and explosions instead!
William isn't precisely happy, but he's not unhappy either, which is all he can ask for 1 He has a decent job in one of the safe zones, and a place to stay, except that all changes when he reads the announcement that his name is on the known criminals list 2. For all he knows, they're looking for an entirely different William Beckett, but that doesn't matter much when they burst into his office looking to drag him away 3. William manages to escape through a vent and then take off for parts unknown 4. He doesn't know how long he's going to survive on his own, but then things change when he stumbles into a camp of counterculture revolutionaries 5. They take him in because they need more people to aid in building their new society, which involves a lot of stealing gasoline and vehicles 6. William winds up scrounging for scrap metal and stealing official cars, which he isn't too bothered about because in for a penny, in for a pound 7. Then they all take off and go to live in the hills surrounding the city 8. William is kind of terrible about living off the land, so he winds up doing a lot of kitchen work and laundry 9. He feels like he's dropped into some bizarre pastoral fantasy a lot of the time, and the only one who seems to understand is this girl Victoria 10. She's also on the run and also just as crappy about the pioneer lifestyle as he is 11. One day they're banging people's clothes against the rocks down by the river, and she laughs at something he says, and William feels like everything is going to be okay when the sound makes his heart flip over a little 12.
