Whilst I adore meerkats, I can't honestly see their relevance to Trafalgar Square. The ship in the bottle is intriguing and beautiful and clever. I feel quite a sense of ownership because my birthday is on Trafalgar Day and anything to do with Nelson etc. really resonates with me!
The ship in a bottle seems, as you say, more relevant and probably therefore wins out (that or the mirrors) but the Meerkats just make me smile so perhaps they could have a slot later on.
I think they deserve a slot - just not in Trafalgar Square. I also like the mirrors - I like almost all his work - but I'm not sure, again, how well they'd sit in that location. They need somewhere larger, perhaps greener, with fewer specific historical connections.
She was only actually there for a few months. They decided the fourth plinth would effectively be used as an exhibition space that changed fairly regularly. It was easily the best statue so far in my opinion, I thinkit's on display elswhere now.
