I can't really add to anything you've said here, other than to say: I agree completely.
The Christopher/Nicholas scene was the killer, though. And I agree Ben Daniels is fantastically good: sexy AND a brilliant actor - to convey so much with a look or subtle facial expression... Ai. *swoons*
*first use of my new dark and brooding Brocklehurst icon* :D
I haven't felt this way about a series of this type since State of Play (which is also made of awesomeitude) and it's just wonderful.
But so so so happy that Nicholas gets to stay being the awesome spy and not the supersekrit triple double agent I was worried about. I now have to write the fic where he's a young MI6 agent and he gets to back 007 up and is all kinda fan-girly but in reality learns how to be hard and cold on the outside from him.
Also now there's so much fuel for Mark/Nicholas. And what is it with me and fandoms where main characters throw each other about? (Hello, Life on Mars
( ... )
I hardly knew Ben Daniels at all before (yay for a whole new back catalogue to explore)
I want baby spy!Nicholas fic and I want Mark/Nicholas and I've half written one in my head were Nicholas and the reporter guy sort of commiserate and I really, depserately, want hot, sweet schmoop with Christopher and Nicholas because he loved him all along damnit and he had to hide it *sighs*
It really was a great show wasn't it? I don't get why viewing figures were so low, though apparently those who watched it mostly scored it very high. It's been a long time since I watched a show and couldn't guess 90% of the finale.
And on top of everything I kinda want to write Nicholas/George based on the way Daniels played his scenes with her. And because of her awesome name.
I get the feeling that Nicholas-fic is going to have to go on Ianto's Clipboard. Although gods know where - it's crammed as it is without adding to it.
