I have fallen into a blackhole of procrastination and can't get out. I only wish I was joking but at the moment I am managing work and essentials but so many other things are slowly getting further and further behind like, IDK, emails and booking things and proofreading articles and actually sorting out the enw Rainbow bank account ( Read more... )

I loved the story about the Lampedusa cross/crosses. Thanks for the link.

As you may have known from my journal, my grandson (yes, the baby you met at Tynemouth) is autistic and we have, as a family, been deeply involved in researching the condition. Recently, we read Steve Silberman's NeuroTribes - an excellent account of the work of all autism researchers starting with Asperger, going through Kanner and reaching the present day. I'll be reviewing it soon so watch out!

January hasn't quite happened for me yet. I fell ill with an unnamed virus on New Year's Eve and have just been 'signed off' today but told to take care. I slept in a bed (instead of the recliner) for the first time this year last night, and I haven't driven yet. I have only been outdoors twice, to reach the surgery. So maybe I should observe Chinese New Year instead??!

every time you talk about him I marvel at how big he is now! It's scary how fast time passes. The book sounds interesting, I'll keep an eye out for your review.

There have been some nasty viruses around this year, there's one going round a couple of the schools here that's really knocked people out. I think having another new year for Chinese New Year sounds like a great plan. I saw someone on tumblr referring to January as a "practice" month too.

Strangely (or perhaps not strangely since they were in the top-read list), I also read those BBC articles today. I found the cross one particularly interesting.

As for how I'm enjoying January, I'm not. January can fuck off (pardon my language) quite frankly, because I am sick to the back teeth of it (although the sunset on the way home last night was beautiful. And I'm looking forward to this weekend and (hopefully) excellent theatre.). I am also way behind on things, although unlike you, I'm getting the non-essentials sorted and failing at work.

Sorry, you probably didn't expect that mini-rant when you asked the question! :)

(Aaaand, when trying to find a suitable icon, I realised that some (most) of them are 10 years old. How did that happen?)

Yeah, you've really had a rough start to the year :-( we will do our best to at least give you a fab Saturday!

(speaking of which I was VERY glad to see David Bedella is back on this week because I was slightly terrified he wouldn't be)

Your work is ridiculous though and rubbish and OH GOD 10 years ago how have we all been in online fandom so long now...
