The news today has been unremittingly bleak- the top three BBC stories right now are all about deaths and then there are several few about protests :-/ Personally my day started at 2am with a call from our work alarm company which I then worried about for ages because there was nothing I could do. Thanks for the heads up about the Pratchett stories. The Heyer book isn't one of my favourites either, though I'll happily read anything she wrote. I hated Vernon God Little - something to do with the sense of humour whcih rubbed me the wrong way. It's always interesting when other people review books I've read!!

Heyer has certain themes and ideas she likes to re-use and it's always interesting to see how she fits them together but Beauvallet definitely isn't one of the best examples of her work.

I think in the play of Vernon God Little they used music and also they had Jesus on stage quite a lot and those two things brought a different strain of humour that wasn't in the book- I enjoyed the book but I wonder if I'd have liked it less without having seen the play first?

I do like hearing/reading other people's opinions of books I've read.
