So ten years of Connotations... I'm pretty certain it wasn't all a mass hallucination and I'm definitely certain it was fun so thank you to everyone I've met at the con over the years for making it a yearly highlight ♥
I know various people have been talking about continuing to use the Connotations LJ for various things including letting everyone know when they're going to other cons (potential for meet-ups or room parties) and if anyone does take on organising another con I'm sure it will turn up there. Plus I'm hoping for an online version of Connotations Predicts... next year to prove if we were right or not!
It's amazing how easy it is to end up at right angles to the dominant fandoms! (I don't watch Teen Wolf either)
And yes, the split some people like to suggest exists between "real" and "online" friends is utterly ridiculous in my experience.
An online version of various things, as well as news, would be good! Maybe we could use the comm for meta? I don't know who maintains it but they could hand it over to someone if it got too onerous.
My only knowledge of either Teen Wolf or Avengers comes from AO3 Abuse where we get the inevitable complaints about e.g. plagiarism or tagging or warnings and have to read or at least skim the fics in question. I probably have quite a skewed view of both fandoms! *g* At least I watch Sherlock and Dr Who, and I am looking forward to The Hobbit.
I have 'real life' friends who have turned themselves into online friends because they have moved, and vice versa. Relatives, likewise... I really can't see the difference between social networking, email, telephones, the postal system, etc. etc. - relationships are relationships and communication is communication!
It IS kind of harsh, possibly I should have given context although I'm not entirely sure it helps! It was sort of the worst possible lesson to learn after 10 years...
I think we did do that a bit, partly because there have some really bad sorts of fanservice recently but it's still weird we basically didn't talk at all about the good stuff!
Mind you if that's what it was like after a year it's probably good next year we won't have a room party with it because IDK how much more violent our (my) reaction can become and still technically be a fan *g*
Fandom is indeed over. Cycling has taught me that. I feel like maybe I'll go back the other way in a desperate attempt to find a happy fandom... it might depend on how awful everything with Thomas is.
