At some point this afternoon in between various pieces of Twitter glee (The Globe & Sam Barnett discussing chest waxing, the Backstreet Boys posting a picture of the 5 of them <3, the Tour de France updates) What's On Stage asked how many professional West End actors had been spotted in Superstar at the weekend. Now that I've had a chance to look at the names they came up with, I can add at least three to that (Hugh Maynard, Stephen Fletcher (who I don't think got through to the island) and Mike Fletcher). They're not west end names, but they've had steady careers in local and touring shows - and Hugh has had major roles in major tours (and he's LOVELY, gives great hugs, has an amazing voice (he played John in Miss Saigon ffs!) and should be getting way more roles than he is. He's someone I would see a show for.) Possibly the most annoying thing is I don't think it's that they feel they have to do this - they DO have to do this, because this is the only way they can get the part, and it's one of those roles that people get into musical theatre to play ( ... )

I hadn't thought that about Oliver... I got quite cross about the whole thing with Jonathan because yes getting out of a contract when people have bought tickets isn't good but it's hardly all that unusual and now it's obvious they were just making him into the bad guy *shudders*

It's all so very very sad. I'd love one of the names to win and then drop out when they'd won because they had a different show to be in (and I know that's mean to ticket buyers and they wouldn't but the whole thing *throws up hands in disgust*)
