This whole cooking with only a microwave & a kettle thing is clearly something I need to think about more... I am inevitably now craving all kinds of things that CLEARLY can't be made without an oven. Also I'd sort of set aside part of this morning to experiment with a recipe I've wanted to try for a while which clearly was tempting fate

Best Iago I saw was my first, the late, really great Bob Peck. Why? Because he played him as the RSM. Anything that had to be done Iago did, including organising unloading ships, so how could anyone not trust him? He also took two decisions which I now think essential: first, he made sure Brabantio had no way to recognise him after he told him where Desdemona was, and second he spent the final scene trying to get his hands on Emilia to shut her up, but the way it was set up both his character and the staging (world) left him standing at ease in one spot. Also, Bob was a wonderful speaker of the verse making it sound natural without having to 'coin' every word.
Richard McCabe was also good, much as I love Simon R-B McCabe was better. Partly because he played with Ray Fearon who was the best Othello I've seen and partly cos Mike Attenborough directed.
But the number of productions I have seen convince me it is one of the trickier plays to get right.

The best I've seen so far was probably Tim McInnerny (at the Globe again) because he's able to be so disarming and has a sort of charm but can clearly switch that on and off.
Chiwetel Ejiofor made a great Othello but Ewan McGregor was an awful foil for him I fear.
This production was clearly too different to be my best Othello production but individual performances in it will stick with me as I continue the search I think!
