ALL PACKED... I mean obviously I didn't just pack this mornign because that would be CRAZY *coughs* but anyway I am all packed and I have 10 minutes before I have to grab tea and head for the train station so a review of last night:

Magical

You want more than that? Idina Menzel really is in her element on stage and she was so clearly enjoying herself it would be almost impossible not to get carried along with her and she does sing beautifully whether she's recounting a rap she wrote for her baby son or breaking my heart with No Day But Today or blasting out Don't Rain On My Parade... the highlight for me though, as I suspect it was for most people, was towards the end when she lowered her mic and sang, acapella and unmic'd, For Good from Wicked and filled the RAH with sound. Unforgettable.

I wrote myself a set list as the concert went along so I wouldn't forget anything so here it is (with the odd comment *g*)

Idinal Menzel @ Royal Albert Hall

We started with just the orchestra (Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra) and conductor (Marvin Hamlisch omg!) doing a VERY short first half on their own.

A Chorus Line medley- though I fear I don't know the songs that well
Happy Birthday- Marvin Hamlish on the piano in the style of Bach, Mozart and then Beethoven. VERY funny :D
My Fair Lady medley ♥ idiot audience tried clapping along at stupid points though.

INTERVAL (I wasn't kidding, but it did give me a chance to ask a steward if I could move to the empty box next to the others and they said YES :D)

Idina's dress, by the way, was absolutely gorgeous- white with a black belt & a very full skirt and beautiful material. I think it's the one she normally wears for concerts. Oh and I'm pretty sure she was barefoot.

Life of the Party
(Story about coming to rehearse Wicked and having the wrong visa and nearly getting sent straight home again!)
I'm Not That Girl LOVE this song <3 it's one of the few I can actually sing but hearing it from her is just beautiful
Love for Sale/Roxanne She told a story about singing Love for Sale at college and what her teacher told her it was about and it was possibly my new favourite version of that song and then the slide into Roxanne was very clever,
(Story about singing for Barbara Streisand... I sort of fell in love with Idina somewhere between the point at which she caled Beyonce a bitch for ahving the song she wanted and the point she said her reaction to Miss Streisand not talking to her was to do Tequila Slammers <3)
Funny Girl/Don't Rain On My Parade
Alive Didn't know this song, by Jimmy Webb? Very nice though.
(story about Rent and meeting her husband and Jonathan Larson dying)
No Day But Today ♥ yeah I totally cried. It was about when she made it obvious she wanted us to sing the echo at the end *sighs happily*
(story about Glee- just post baby and feeling unemployable and fat and then realising she was playing mother to a 25 year old and feeling OLD too)
Pokerface sung with lots of interruptions as she wondered about why on earth they chose this song and what the words mean.
Look to the Rainbow
Baby songs medley ending with Good Morning Walker- things she and Taye write for their son including a rap but the last song was really very cute & good leading into
I feel Smoochie by Luois Prima
Heaven Help My Heart I'm not a BIG Chess fan but she does sing this well
For Good ♥♥♥ as above. Perfect, (first standing ovation)
Defying Gravity well she kind of had to *g* she is still very good at it too (second standing ovation of the night)
The Way We Were I'm so glad they did this, how could they not with the composer right there, he played for her too <3
Tomorrow weirdest intro ever and very slow and really a lot nicer for it (girl next to me had clearly never heard of the song or Annie :-/) (Third & last standing ovation)

And now I must leave or I will either not have my morning tea or miss the train (guess my priority? :-P)

connotations here I come!
