Oh, I liked this. A little sad, but with hope that it won't always be that way. And meanwhile, at least an annual chance to be around others who understand and to be able to express what they feel without fear. Great job!
Aw. That made me sad. *sniffle* But still you managed to put a smile on my face with this: The guys at the resort loved Starsky, of course, and not just because he had the best ass walking.
This kind of story is why I friended (that's not a real word, is it?) you. Real, and hurting, and knowing that they're caught between losing everything and having forever. Just... wow.
My guess, and it's only a guess, is you feel more nervous being Hutch because of the similarities--it might be more important to you to get it just right?
For what it's worth, I think you nailed it.
As for writers having any "strangeness" in the head, I don't see it as strangeness, I see it as you all hgaving this incredible creativity--you think differently--it's the artistic thing.

I can't think about it too much (what lives they must lead) because it makes my heart so damned heavy. yet...they have each other, yeah.

Your POV was really sharp, too. Hutch's voice was spot on.
Thank you for sharing.
