I know that Dean has a guilty conscious about, well, just about everything... but why does he feel that his mother won't talk to him and that John would take Sam and join her, leaving Dean behind? It's perfectly in-character, but I would love to hear why you think Dean feels this way.

But, I think the idea of Dean fearing total abandonment by his family is right on the money. However, I never thought of it happening at 7. I thought the idea may have formed somewhat in his head early on with Mary's death and John's subsequent depression. But, I figured that Sam's leaving wouldn't be thought of until his little brother got to the fun 'I hate you' pre-teens and rebelious teen years.
