I have read 25 or 26 books from the list. J. R. R. Tolkien, all Jane Austen books, Lev Tolstoy, Alexandre Dumas among them. But this list seems a bit random to me. I don't think the quantity should be the main criteria here. The quality of the books should be the right one. Seriously, can you compare, let's say, War and Peace and Da Vinci Code? I wonder if they just named the books that sprang to their minds... But since reading is quite a rare activity these days, I can imagine the reason why Da Vinci Code or HP are on the list - just to enhance the number ;)
As for that nice person you met in the shop. Radiohead has a video film titled 'Meeting People is Easy'. Maybe... Maybe one day you just meet someone in the shop or in the street. A tug on a sleeve would be nice, though :) So accept the appearance of that nice person as a sign, and next time, if you see her or someone as nice as her, maybe just try to approach that person? Just to check if meeting people is really that easy :)

thank you for your hearted words about meeting a friend. being on my own doesnt bother me that much actually, it was a weird state of mind i was in yesterday, it was over soon after i clutched a new book in a shop:) but hey, Radiohead telling its easy to meet people? how sange, cause they sing about alienation most of all, i thought. i like how you pick up the most reassuring details, even in the gloomy Radiohead message. i love your approach!
