Yeah, I guess I did not see "let's just try these colored tiles out at random" coming, but hey, players! I thought it was a good session.
Fight stretched on about 30 minutes past everyone's attention span I thought (though I shudder to think what that would have been in 4e), but I think mostly because a couple players weren't really "in" the fight, or were just doing holding-pattern actions, so it was longer than it had to be. Though it's hard to blame anyone for ducking and covering when they only have 2 hit points and were almost just murdered.
I'm surprised that it doesn't seem to have...tragic consequences yet? So...let's keep messing with it! We're totally going to summon Zuggtymoy like, 15 levels too soon, aren't we?
Fights in 2e are tricky, because some things are easy to do: "...two shots...blue first...miss & hit...so three points..." while other things are way trickier "so how does this spell work?" Neither the Players, the DM or anybody at the table knows how the spells work!
Also, it was Lilly's first time & she didn't want to feel like she was "wasting" her turn...she'll find out soon enough that most turns are "wasted." Me, any turn where I don't FALL & BREAK A LEG is a good turn.
Yeah, I really need to both get me that second PHB I keep saying I'm gonna get, and also get better at committing players' spell lists to memory. And also maybe just write up a spell cheat sheet for the spellcasters, to obviate the back-and-forth.
