Jesus man, you've got post up straight faced responses to that kind of trollery? I thought I'd like it if my job duty included DnD blogging but I'm reconsidering, pretty hard.

Next time you want to stir up the degenerates I suggest going at weapon damage rules & Swordfighting techniques. Bring the real lunatics out of the woodwork.

Yeah, I am a long suffering martyr, though I should point out that this degree of flak ain't nothing compared to crapholes like Gothamist.

Anyhow, the "real lunatics" mostly respond to issues of race & gender. That is my experience. Oh, & who has sex with who.

...yeah, sorry about that whole thread though. Basically my response to "don't feed the trolls" is "how about if I feed them with like, heavy fiber gluten-free free trade blocks of KNOWLEDGE?"

Also, I am pretty proud of "You sir are arguing the side of Mordor."

That is fair, in comparison it's pretty tame. The difference between this and Gothamist however (for me at least), is that when you write a post I actually read all the comments, whereas looking at the comment section of Gothamist is a little like taking the lid off something that's been in the fridge too long, getting a whiff and then immediately throwing it away.

Ha, a fair point. Still, at least people pretend to be having a civil discourse. Like I said last night-- I can parse the code switching people are using, but I'm almost flattered that they are bothering to use the metaphors & such.

I don't think that the same impulses that informed the switch from "devil" to "baatezu" are at the root, but that is an interesting theory. Anyhow, yeah, the "teachable experience" of the (frankly inevitable) comparisons of orcs to racial stereotypes is eye opening.

Honestly, I don't think it mattered to some of the more extreme anti-FRGPers. The extreme anti-Satanism crowd literally tried to make the argument that anything other than focusing one's conscious devotion to God 24/7 was sin. They were laughable and a tiny minority, yet still organized and taken seriously for years. The early 80's were crazy ( ... )
