I couldn't winnow it down to ten, & I couldn't bulk it up to sixteen, so here are my top twelve. Of course, this list is the product of the moment I made it-- I've already realized that I left off
Once Upon a Time in the North (Edit: & just realized I could have put on a
Scott Pilgrim comic!), but we have to press on. Some of these, like Brushfire, are representatives for a greater body of work-- I've picked the best one of the bunch in that case. Some are biased-- Cabinet of Wonders, but since I am my biases, you have it there. The turn out is about 75% geeky, by my math. Edit: I want to give an official honorable mention to
Raindrinker- the Murderer's March by Kingtycoon, & to
Famous Corpses by Danielle Griffith & Jan Op De Beek.
Always by Nicola Griffith.
Cabinet of Wonders by Marie Rutkoski.
Dungeons & Dragons fourth edition by Wizards of the Coast.
The Scar by China Mieville.
Anathem by Neal Stephenson.
A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
Eternals volume one by Jack Kirby.
There Are Doors by Gene Wolfe.
Worm Ouroboros by E.R. Eddison.
Throughout Your Generation Forever by Nancy Jay.
A Planeswalker's Guide to Alara by Jenna Helland, Doug Beyer, & various artists.
Brushfire by Wayne Barlowe.
