When strangers come to the door, they ask for my mother, and I'll be 27 in a couple of weeks. I can never bear to say outright that I'm an adult, so I usually hope the conversation becomes something where I can refer to work or some other age-related clue-by-four. But it's infuriating.

Families: it may not just be your appearance; I know a lot of people in our age group who, regardless of how they look, become children to their parents and extended family as soon as they walk in the door. Admittedly certain circumstances can accentuate the tendency, but it does seem to be very common. Perhaps admitting to themselves how old we are means admitting to themselves how old they are, to have a child/niece/grandchild that age...
