[for Miguel - February 15th]

Feb 01, 2010 19:17

It's been a long time since Lennox has had any sort of romance in his life and while he's mostly okay with that -- mostly likes it, actually -- it's been so damn long that he didn't immediately question Miguel the night before when he got a little... well, mushy. At the time, it had seemed a little strange, but they'd been in the moment and after ( Read more... )

Miguel doesn't really wake up all at once--he's halfway there, blinking his way up and out of a dream, but he feels too good to be in a hurry. He knows Jim is next to him, and he doesn't know what it is, but today it's really. It's nice, nicer than usual.

And it'd be even nicer without all the space between them on the bed; tossing an arm over Jim's middle, Miguel pulls him in while shifting over, meeting in the middle where he can press a sleepy kiss to Jim's shoulder. "Good morning," he mutters happily, "If it's even morning."

"Yeah," he says, good feeling muted because it's always kind of sad, not having Shane around. Without her and Joe it's like there's no one to tell about Jim, not when he's confused or like now, when he's happy about it. "I used to stay here with Shane, but nobody told me to get out when she disappeared so I guess it's mine." He doesn't know who handles that sort of thing, though Joe had some kind of will to divide up his and Gene's shit.

He wonders who he'd leave his shit too. Probably Jim and Lloyd, if they wanted any of it. Maybe Nicki, but he doesn't think he has anything she wants or needs.

Feeding Angelo most involves setting out some cereal for him to chew on when he's bored and opening the door so he can go find something real to eat. Miguel knows cats are all nocturnal and shit, but he likes to keep him inside after dark and lets him back out in the mornings. "It's easy to feed them," he says of the animals, "Mostly I come back so they can get some attention."

"You could always bring them," Lennox suggests, quite before he knows what he's saying. It's not like he has a problem with it and he's pretty sure the dogs won't mind either, but when he's said stuff like that before, Miguel always gets a little weird.

Then again, the whole fucking day is weird today.

"I mean... you know, just so they're not alone all night or something like that," he continues, wondering if things are all going to turn sour now that he's said something stupid. He's pretty used to saying something stupid, but he's fucking tired of it. Especially now and here, with Miguel, in his place.

Miguel laughs, searching himself for the reason he doesn't, for the logic he's applied before today, before this feeling, and it's really fucking hard to get a hold of. Logic shouldn't have anything to do with it, he thinks, because it's all about how Jim makes him feel.

And yet. "I think Angelo'd fight you for my attention. He'd totally butt in in the middle of everything and be a pain in the ass." Not that Angelo doesn't like Jim, running back and forth between them with his tail straight up before settling on Miguel, flopping down on top of his feet so he has to pick the cat up to move. When he does, Angelo starts purring and doesn't stop, a soft warm little motor buzzing against his chest. "Could give it a shot, though."

"He'd have the dogs to keep him entertained, too," Lennox reminds him, grinning as he thinks about how Hal and King might react to having another cat in the hut. Lucy is hardly a house cat and they don't really get to play with her. Angelo would be a little different. A little more fun.

"Are you gonna bring him to breakfast?" he asks, his smile growing as he watches the cat settle against Miguel, looking pretty content to not move for the next little while. "I don't think anyone in the Compound would even notice, to be honest."

He sort of wants to make a joke about moving in, but it wouldn't really be a joke and if Jim didn't like he doesn't know what he'd do.

"Yeah," he says, scratching the cat's head. Half the reason Angelo is so soft is because Miguel shares his breakfast most days. "We can go whenever you want."

It's so easy to just let this slide and Lennox wonders if he's going to feel like an asshole later, when Miguel is normal again and everything is back to the way it was. He's sort of taking advantage here and he wonders if Miguel is going to be pissed about that.

As easy as it is to fall into this, it's just as easy to forget about feeling like an asshole. He brushes it off and then nods to the door.

"We can go now," he says. "I'm fucking starving, man. Eddie made that whole fridge and stove thing in the Hamlet, which is great, but sometimes bacon and eggs just tastes the best when you're inside."
