Gripping the edge of the doorway in both hands and still just edging over it to look into the room, he looks like a kid trying to hide the letter of disapproval in his back pocket, but there's only King, nudging past his leg hard enough to make his grip on the wall necessary as the dog barrels in to greet his owner. "Nobody answered the door the other day, but they wanted out and I don't know where your friends live. I kept stopping by to check on everything, but I guess everybody's back."

"Was I out for long?" he asked, voice still hoarse. He cleared his throat, then smiled again, faintly sheepish. "Could I bug you for some water or something? I feel like I'm gonna fucking topple over or something."

"Couple of days," he says on his return, finally entering the room to hand the cup over. "I don't know how long it was before I came across you, but it wasn't just you."

"Thanks for looking after the dogs," he added, forcing himself not to drink the whole damn cup in one go. He'd probably just end up getting sick if he did that and he already felt shitty enough.
