Miguel - post homeplot

It was strange how waking up on Eddie and Lily's couch could become so familiar again after only two days. When Lennox woke that morning, he expected to feel the soft slope of their couch cushions against his cheek and instead felt Hal's fur brushing his arm from where she lay on his bed. Groaning softly, Lennox blinked a few times and then lifted ( Read more... )

"Oh," Miguel answers, leaning into the doorway like keeping his distance might make up for the fact that he's in the guy's house sans invitation, "so you lived." He hadn't really doubted the outcome, people apparently dropping off all over the island, but some people hadn't come back the way they do, so he'd been keeping an eye out for an empty bed.

Gripping the edge of the doorway in both hands and still just edging over it to look into the room, he looks like a kid trying to hide the letter of disapproval in his back pocket, but there's only King, nudging past his leg hard enough to make his grip on the wall necessary as the dog barrels in to greet his owner. "Nobody answered the door the other day, but they wanted out and I don't know where your friends live. I kept stopping by to check on everything, but I guess everybody's back."

It was fucking weird, how having Miguel there reminded Lennox how few people he had left on the island and he managed a weak smile, because it meant a hell of a lot to him that he'd come. "Better you than someone coming to steal my shit," he pointed out, still smiling in a faintly ill manner, his hands rubbing over King's ears.

Better Miguel than a lot of people, actually.

"Was I out for long?" he asked, voice still hoarse. He cleared his throat, then smiled again, faintly sheepish. "Could I bug you for some water or something? I feel like I'm gonna fucking topple over or something."

"Not like I didn't water your dogs," shrugging it off before he goes to fetch a cup. Miguel doesn't know if it's funny or fucking sad that he's exactly the kind of person to steal Jim's shit. He doesn't know if it's a relief or another thorn in his nervous system that Jim has no idea.

"Couple of days," he says on his return, finally entering the room to hand the cup over. "I don't know how long it was before I came across you, but it wasn't just you."

"Yeah, it's happened before," Lennox said, smiling his thanks as he took the cup from Miguel. He remembered it happening before, he remembered trying to drag unconscious neighbours to the Compound so that they could be kept safe. As he took a drink, he nodded to the bed beside him, just wanting Miguel to take a seat.

"Thanks for looking after the dogs," he added, forcing himself not to drink the whole damn cup in one go. He'd probably just end up getting sick if he did that and he already felt shitty enough.
