What fun!

As for Britishisms - I now point out how terribly old I am by sayinh that nurses usually didn't wear white uniforms in the late 60s - a staff nurse would wear pale blue with a white pinafore in most hospitals. When I started my training in the mid 70s we were some of the first to wear white dresses.

Also - we would not have used the phrase 'attending physician' (we still wouldn't) - we would wonder what he was attending... We would usually just call the doctor on duty in A&E 'the registrar', or 'the medical registrar' if he was a physician rather than a surgical reg. In a smaller hospital where the Casualty Registrar only worked days we would have had an 'on-call registrar'. It was often the job of a junior nurse to go and hammer on his rest-room door to wake him up if we needed him, I recall!

Thank you! Both for the nice review and for your entirely not-terribly old knowledge. Will go through and fix it up, make sure that Martha's "realising" things and not "realizing" them. I've never quite understood the U.K.'s distaste for the letter "z", but who am I to judge? Anyway, thanks again!
