Oh, Brother, Why Art Thou?

Well, putting my little efforts at killing off unloved characters here paid off in spades, as a virus wiped everything off my computer. I just had to do for Izzy, as she committed the ultimate sin of stabbing Guy in the back. Boo!

Apologies for the Sooty reference - my age is tripping me up! I’ll explain for anyone who doesn’t know who he is. This ( Read more... )

Dear Lord how you kill ME every time! X-D

The town was a disappointment, as was so much in Isabella’s life. Her frustration increased exponentially, as she came to the conclusion that she’d come to Nottingham, not only to seek her brother’s protection but also to inspect the local talent, only to find that her brother was the local talent.

These lines and many others are pure wonder!

You, as usual, are far too kind! I must say that I did enjoy offing Izzy, who turned into a raving fruitcake in what seemed like the space of an episode and a half. Insanity, however, is NO excuse for trying to chop off Guy's head or for stabbing him in the back. She and Vasey well deserve each other!

Thank you on both counts! I do think that squashing her under several tons of collapsed masonry was too quick and merciful an end for her in the show. A more drawn out affair was begging to be set up... she certainly deserved Vasey's chest hair up her snout for what she did to Guy!

Darling Mopps. So much to love. The eye popping madness.

The bondage, falling out of posh frocks, the fruit and veg porn..Ye Legge end of Bobbin Hode *giggle*

You have to feel sorry for the girl The hottest man in Nottigham's her brother...and bless him so vulnerable, naive and trusting...(too busy protecting his sister to spend his teens roystering and becoming a man of the world).

I'm slow on the uptake; but have now got the Sooty reference at last.

Yep - she was so monumentally ungrateful for his efforts to look after her and try to do his best for her following the fire that I think he'd have done better just to swing her round by her hair and lob her into the flames...

I had to put the Sooty reference in. I never liked Sooty myself - that creepy way he always had to whisper everything to thr Corbetts, Snr and Jnr! I was always a sucker for Sweep...

Bobbin, closer to the explosion, had actually been tossed several feet into the air, proof positive of the force of the blast.

This especially had me cackling aloud.

I wanted so badly for Issy to be a much needed ally for Guy, but the mental case she ended up as at least needed to be buckled backwards into her brother's jacket and thrown in a padded cell. I still don't have the faintest clue how they devised her or what they think it says about battered women.

Loved this - bravo, you delightfully sadistic creature!

Glad you liked it, my dear! I Initially hoped that the Gisbornes would get it together and take over the world. The thing that really bugged me was that they seemed to hinge all her unhingedness on the fact that Guy had married her off all those years before. I'm not even going to go down the whole route of its being nothing untoward for the conventions of the time, 'cos one thing the writers knew nothing about was mediaeval history! OK, as it transpired, they wanted to strip everything away from Guy before giving him a chance to redeem himself and a sister encouraging him to the Dark Side wouldn't have fitted that scenario, but it was still sheer lazy, sloppy writing that lacked the imagination to at least give her a valid and understandable reason for the implacable hatred she felt against him. Grr!!

Oh, I so wanted to like Izzy! To be fair, I did - for about an episode and a half. There was so much wasted potential for the Gizzys' relationship, but they just went down the lazy route of turning her into a Grade A nutter.

How much more interesting it would have been to watch Guy and Izzy reconnect with each other and with their humanity - Guy could still have ended up acknowledging that he'd offed Marian and repenting for that, he could still have turned against Vasey and John but we'd have been spared the convoluted plot device that involved his sharing a significant part of his past with Bobbin, that neither of them could remember until reminded by the Hobbit of Locksley.

It's weird, but I found that nasty little stab in the back that Izzy gave Guy more upsetting than the running through with the sword bit from Vasey...
