CT United Ride

Sep 01, 2006 20:30

Last Sunday my wife and I and some friends participated in the CT United Ride. It's a 9/11 charity ride sponsored by the state firefighter's association to raise money for the United Way and police/firefighter family emergency relief funds. With several friends and a family member professional firefighters, it's something we support. Historically, this is one of the largest tribute/charity rides in the state, and they were expecting close to 3000 bikes this year for the 60 mile ride. Unfortunately it started raining in the morning, and only got worse as the day progressed. We got something like 5 inches of rain during the event. Probably 75% of the expected crowd failed to show, and of those maybe 25% actually finished the ride. I'm happy (now) to say that we finished the ride! It was a miserable ride, made tolerable by the cause and the company.
