My grandmother was a village girl. Very sheltered. She didn't even know that there were people with different skin colors until she was close to 30. So, you can imagine that she had some prejudices ( Read more... )

I have a history book back from around the turn of the century that actually displays similar prejudices.

I cherish that kind of memory, the kind that show the differences, the personality of the person. I like to remember my grandparents too, and while it makes me feel sad, I'm glad that I have that link to them.

I'm sorry to hear about the unfortunate circumstances leading up to her death, but how wonderful for both of you that you were there to give her her last meal.

my Grandmom...89...is mad at my Uncle 60-62.....because he does busniess with the Japanese and travels there several time a year....

It's amazing how long someone can really dislike another group of people, because of what they lived through. I understand that the actions of a country are not necessarily the desires of its people, but those who lived through hell like our grandparents often just can't stop thinking that all people of that nation are bad.

I'd guess that it's not uncommon to find someone in their 80s or 90s who don't hold that kind of prejudice.
