I think you need to read the blog "cold antler Farm". Jenna is doing all that homesteading stuff. She's had trials and tribulations and even has two books. One about her life on the farm and another DIY about raising chickens. She poisoned herself killing and eating her first hen this summer. After that, she had them professionally butchered.

You might want to read back this year-alot's happened that I think would be of interest to you, farm animals wise.
