Sittin' here having my ears sublimely caressed by the brand-new Highlander soundtrack Deluxe Edition (from 2014, contains both score AND songs!  And Sean Connery's intro!  Only took 'em 30 years!), and enjoying the coolness of my new portable A/C unit.  Food bankin' helped pay for both, and will for Madeline's next vet visit. :)  Yes, they were ( Read more... )

Yep, and I'm 80 feet up with few trees around that high (and no other buildings nearby above 3 stories), in a building that has a full 'central air' thing going with air from outside, so gets warmer the higher you go despite the breeze through the halls. Bellingham is also lousy with microclimes - the other day at 6 pm my iPhone said it was 79 at my parents' house, 81 on my computer at home, and the bank just half a mile away said 83. That was the proverbial straw that made me decide I needed it ASAP.

Maybe we'll get lucky and that just happened to be the usual few weeks of damn hot come early and the rest of the summer will be unseasonably cool leading into a long winter that replenishes the snowpacks, plus some. I'd hate to see the Ski to Sea miss the 'Ski' part permanently.

I managed for a couple of years on the east side of WA in a studio, and then again on the north side of Bellingham (and also learned how to better pick my apartment, as that one had the unshaded sliding door and a big bay window on the west side), but I didn't want to pay the electrical bill for an A/C. Luckily public housing in WA pays for electricity (and the second apartment I had on the east side had A/C built in), so that's not an issue as long as I stay here. My mom was all 'can't you get a fan?' I own 3, Mom, no they won't do.

Yep I noticed them, flies, and ants...ugh...
