I am intrigued by the bondlink aspects, as it is one of my favourite kinks. But I am also leery of the Everyone Is Dom/sub Universe because I've had bad experience with it before in other fandoms. May I ask you a couple of questions before giving this story a try? (I'm one of those rare fen who loves knowing as much about a fic before reading it as possible -- warnings and spoilers are my friends! :P)

First, is this one of those Xanthe-based universes in which the character get official "training" in how to have sex? 'Cause that concept is a big deal-breaker for me, since it throws me off why you have to be 'taught' how to be what you are supposed to be born innately as. It's a sticking point I just can't seem to get over, even if the training itself isn't shown in the story

Nope. There might have been one mention of classes, but it didn't specify what they might have been about and was never brought up again.

Second, and this one is more a personal squick, does Erik and Charles' relationship involve pain and humiliation?

Absolutely not. In fact, the Doms are mostly concerned with protecting their Subs and taking care of them. (Though, this doesn't mean that the reverse isn't also true.) I don't really care for pain and humiliation, either.
