It creeps insidiously on the air through the hallway. It sneaks into the adjacent rooms and infiltrates them. It hurries here and there with malicious flightiness, just in and out of reach, growing as it moves. Finally, the unmistakeable aroma of baking has taken over the entire palace wing ( Read more... )

"Good afternoon, Small Lady." Selene shows no surprise at having her granddaughter find her. "I am happy to be able to see you once more." She smiles softly, caught in her own thoughts for just a moment before she makes the offer.

"Would you like to help with the cakes?"

Selene accepts Chibi-Usa patiently. "Here." She reaches down to hand the bowl and a thick spoon to the little girl. "Stir it very well, and the cake will be light and moist as it should be." She nudges the bowl a bowl closer for Chibi-Usa to take it.

"Perhaps the Nexus will bring many visitors today," she reflects quietly.

"Serenity. I am able to see you once more." Selene smiles softly at Usagi. Perhaps something inside her had told her she'd have such a visitor, as the cakes seem somehow strange for her, in this vast and empty castle.

"Come," Selene invites Usagi. "Stand by me, my daughter." She steps gracefully aside, making room for both of them to use the counter and its space. The smallest of smiles stays at her lips, polite and gracious.

"You resemble your appearance from the past very strongly still," the queen remarks.

The pause is calm as Selene takes a moment to place the man paying her respect. She nods finally, a gracious nod from a sovereign to a high-ranking member of another kingdom.

"You are most welcome here, Kunzite," she says. "You have found your way to the heart of the Moon Castle."

"I have a fondness for sweets." This, if her daughter and granddaughter are any indication, is like saying Niagra Falls is a trickling stream. The tiniest glimmer of mischief, almost gone before it truly forms, suggests she may be aware of the humor.

"Nehellenia!" Few things in any world could make the moon goddess' eyes widen and her voice catch. Her hand comes to her mouth as she stares at what she almost can't believe.

"That was probably because Serenity felt you deserved this chance at happiness. Do not demean her gift by throwing it away," Selene says, and though her words are mild, they may be a warning.

"If you mean no harm to anyone here, you are welcome here." She can do no less than her daughter; she can forgive the woman in front of her for what happened those thousands of years ago.

Anei had followed the smell eagerly at first, all the way to the kitchen. It's only when she reaches the kitchen and sees just who the chef is that she hesitates.

"Oh..."

Maybe if she turns and leaves now, Serenity won't know she was here.

There's no such luck for the little queen. Selene notices her immediately. There's a fraction of a second where she simply freezes. But it's simply not in her to be cruel to a child, or to someone not here seeking anyone's harm.

"You are welcome to stay," she invites.

"A-are you sure?" She turns around, but doesn't come further into the kitchen. "I don't want to..." To what? Cause any trouble? Further grief? "...to bother you."

"It is no bother," Selene promises. "As long as you mean no harm to anyone within it, you will be welcome in this castle."
