He didn't like to be by himself sometimes. His thoughts caught up with him, surrounded him and made him remember that time. He was broken when they found him, and he wasn't sure he was fixed now. He wasn't sure he'd ever really be fixed. It made him angry, that those people, the enemy, would do something like that to him. It frightened him, to know

Here. Him.

Here. She's in the Earth Palace that has so many conflicting memories of trauma and of peace for her. She knows it from the graceful lines of the architecture to the rich fabrics and furnishings. By instinct she reaches for her teletia-S... only to discover she's already caught.

"Jadeite..." Mercury finds herself staring at the youngest shitennou. Caught off-guard, her expression looks almost uncertain.

"Do you skate?" The question comes over her shoulder as Mercury walks just a bit ahead of Jadeite. They'll be to a spot they can probably manage it on soon - if she doesn't decide to be even more mischievous and make a rink out of one of the lawns.

"It's a bit late in the season for that, isn't it?" he quips. "Or do you intend to make the ice thicker?" He knows about her skills--how could he not? Like the Sailormercury of their world, only she tended to use ice more than water.

"Would you have come if you didn't already know I could?" Mercury gives a self-satisfied smirk. Of course, actually making a sheet of ice big enough for skating on the lawn would be the equivalent of erecting a fifty-foot-high blaring neon sign saying 'Mercury was here'.

But firming up somewhere else they can skate would be a bit more subtle.

Jadeite ignores the remark as they arrive at the lake. He glances to it. The ice has gotten thin, and there are places that probably won't support their weight right now.

He gives her a Look, as if to say, 'well, let's see it.'

It's the truth.

Mercury grins. She quirks an eyebrow at Jadeite as if deliberately misunderstanding his look. And of course if he looks that way... the ice is somehow quite a bit thicker now, as if it hadn't even taken much effort.

"Want something else?"

EAT AT MERCURY'S ... wait,

The girl is a brat. How does Kunzite put up with her? He shrugs carelessly. "After you."

All you can eat sandwich platters! :D

Mercury steps onto the ice without any apparent concern, and it holds her up. She entertains the thought of melting it beneath Jadeite once he's in the center, but she pushes the thought away as likely to make him annoyed.

It doesn't occur to her that it might be going too far.

"Aren't you coming too? You don't need to be afraid of thick ice."

I don't know how the king would appreciate a sandwich stand on his lawn.

He follows her onto the ice then, and he doesn't slip. He seems to hold his own on it pretty well.

But... they're delicious

There's a quick flash of light near Mercury's feet, and she glides over towards Jadeite on a pair of shiny new bladed ice-boots-skates.

"I'll make you a pair, too, if you want."

The king probably doesn't read enough to have to worry about proper nutrition WHILE he's reading

Here's her perfect chance to freeze him to the pond instead. He shouldn't trust her.

But he does.

He shrugs. "If you want," he agrees.

Tragic. Where's the anmitsu?

He really shouldn't. She could play any sort of prank on him, from the fun to the accidentally harmful to the outright malicious.

But she doesn't do anything to hurt him. Jadeite's boots get their turn to glow, and end up with sharp, glimmering ice blades. Mercury gives a smile of satisfaction, pride in her little handiwork.

"Those won't melt until we're done." Say thank you.
