Noooo, it was a posed picture last time. This is a candid taken DURING filming, bb! It's going to be real! At some point this season, he's getting Excalibur. Finally!

RAWR.

(It's an epic moment, I know, but really, RAWR is all I have to give right now.)

Yay! But now I'm wondering if this means we'll actually have a magic reveal finally or if Merlin is just going to be all "Oh look, there is this sword conveniently sitting in this rock, maybe you should try pulling it out." Knowing the show it's probably going to be the latter.

Idk, idk. How would he get it out of the rock w/out Merlin's assistance? I mean, Merlin just placed it in the stone. We didn't see or hear him do any sort of spell about this can only be wielded by the rightful king. So that has to happen at some point, right?

I think we'll have a magic reveal, if not during the season, as some big, epic ending for the season. Since Dragoon the Great is supposed to be around this season, maybe he's the one who helps Arthur? And Arthur finds out later on that he was really Merlin all along, and that sets up S5--Merlin in exile or Merlin revealed and in his rightful place at court?

If you watch the scene where Excalibur is placed in the stone, Merlin's eyes glowed as did the stone around where the sword went in, so there was certainly some magic going on there. It's possible to extrapolate that Merlin bound the sword to the rock and can only be released by the Once and Future King.

OMG magic reveal would be effing awesome! I am so hoping that with Dragoon reappearing we'll see Arthur learning that magic is only as evil as the person who wields it, and that it wasn't magic that corrupted Morgana, but her own terror of what Uther would do to her if he found out what she could do as well as Morgause's thirst for revenge and Merlin poisoning her. So yeah, Arthur learning and then the big reveal would be effing awesome as a set-up for the fifth series -- the air finally getting a chance to clear between the boys and then the final break between Arthur and Uther over the issue of magic.

Am totally crossing my fingers, anyway. ;)

Yes, there was definitely a spell of some sort involved for a sword to be able to enter into rock. But the show loves to be blatant about things to do with the legend, so I would've thought a big deal would be made about I place this here only to be removed by the one true king, etc. etc. So they may make a big production out of it once it becomes necessary to do so, when there's someone else claiming/vying for the throne. We know it was created for Arthur and Arthur alone to wield, but the people need to know, as well. So I'm sure there will be some to-do made over it at some point before it comes out.

I can't wait to see what happens once there's finally a reveal (whenever it is). Poor Merlin, he's lived in the closet long enough. Time to come out and show Arthur how truly valuable you can be as one of his fighting force and his irreplaceable right hand man. :D
