I'm dragging this journal out of retirement for one post.

While taking my dog out for a walk, we came across a stray dog, who clearly had been underfed and poorly cared for. He followed us home  and James and I decided that we would try to find a shelter for him. well after trying to do that all morning, we both came to the conclusion that Australia sucks in terms of shelters. They were either full or no ( Read more... )

Yeah entropion :( These dogs are usually very very expensive and have chronic skin and ear infections. Poor babies. I have never seen a healthy shar pei honestly, they are always having problems. It's so sad. I'm also allergic to their fur.

We're hoping since he has some staffy in him that he will be less chronic and that his skin condition mainly is the result of him not being taken care of... I gave him a bath yesterday and the water looked like the Colorado river in high flood, it was that brown.

We are sort of leaning towards keeping him... in spite of the fact that he has these problems. He really is a sweetie... The only really bad thing he does is he is food aggressive towards Tiburon. We're feeding them separately Which is a little bit of a pain since Tibs has started taking to eating a little through out the day and the other dog just wants to eat everything now! and can't, since he has to be introduced to food slowly with lots of little meals.

We have a Shiba Inu/Lab mix and she's got chronic cysts that look like giant pimples and sometimes pop that way. It's rather disgusting.. but they told us to use vaseline and benadryl when she gets them. The vaseline keeps it protected and the benadryl stops her from attacking it all of the time. We push the pills into a piece of a hot dog and feed them to her that way.

Also, I dragged my journal out of retirement too but really just as a sounding board. It's certainly more private than making a note on Facebook.
